Michael New Action Forum
Do you remember how the book of Exodus begins? “There arose in Egypt a generation that knew not Joseph.” Well, in similar vein, there has arisen in America a generation that knows nothing of the saga of Army SPC4 Michael New. His historic stance began in 1995 when he refused to wear a baby blue beret and deploy on a United Nations mission into Macedonia to be a UN Peacekeeper. For his efforts he was court-martialed and awarded a Bad Conduct Discharge (BCD).
There was a national outcry at the time, and the name of Michael New approached being a household name and topic of discussion for many months, indeed, some years. He fought his way through both the Article 2 military courts and the Article 3 federal courts, eventually appealing three different times to the Supreme Court, which denied cert every time.
Nonetheless, the legal briefs and the articles and even the legislation of that era constitute a significant contribution to the “Literature of Liberty” and the concept of whether the United States is to ever surrender its sovereignty to the Globalist dream of a One World Government under the control of the United Nations.
That legal battle continued over 22 years and ended up right where we knew it probably would, with the Pentagon prevailing over a solitary soldier and his supporters. Even so, we had to go through it, to establish the premise that the American people do not want their sons and daughters sent off on foreign military entaglements, as we were warned by George Washington in his Farewell Address.
The political winds through the Clinton, Bush, Obama and Biden administrations have been adverse winds, and even the first Trump administration didn’t show any interest. Today, however, the political winds seem to have shifted, and we are seeing an anti-UN sentiment growing in Washington, DC.
The Question Before Us Today
Should we re-open the case of Michael New vs. Dept. of Defense? Toward what end? It seems valid to us to request either a pardon, or a vacating of the original conviction, asking that he be granted instead an Honorable Discharge, a return to him the benefits due every veteran, and a removal of the unjust stain upon his name.
However, if that were all there is to it, we would not attempt it, first because of the cost of mounting such a campaign, but more importantly, because this fight was not about a solitary soldier and his refusal to obey an order.
At issue is the entirety of American national sovereignty.
At issue is the question of who rules America? The People, under parameters set by the Constitution? Politicians? Unelected bureaucrats? Prime Ministers of other countries?
At issue is whether our government can order our citizens into warfare without the authority of a congressional declaration of war.
At issue is whether our sons and daughters can be sacrificed on the altar of a New World Order.
At issue is whether the Oath of Office to the Constitution transcends the will of politicians and generals, and their insistance that “all soldiers must obey all orders.”
These issues are just as important today as they were 30 years ago, now that globalist politicians and bureaucrats have led us to the brink of WWIII.
Should We Take Advantage of the Shift?
Should we take advantage of the shift in the political atmosphere? We could benefit from knowing what you think. Waste of time and money? Tell us that. Worth the time and effort and money? Tell us that.
CAN WE do it? We have no idea. Several factors have to be considered, beginning with the question of whether the American people can be educated to these issues, and grasp the concept that THEY must get involved, that they must educate the next generation, that they must get the attention of elected officials, especially in Congress, and they must grasp the opportunity to, if you’ll pardon the borrowing of a popular slogan, “Make America Sovereign Again!”
We have to build up a new mailing list. We have to learn to use a social media which didn’t exist back in the day. We need to build public awareness, particularly among our men and women in uniform and the young people being recruited today. Unlike every other country on earth, their oath is to the Constitution, not to the government, whether a president or a king.

He was overwhelmed by the publicity, he was suffering from some combat experiences in the Kuwait/Iraq aftermath, and he got married. That’s enough stress for anyone! But his story went viral at the time, and the fax machines in Congress were flooded with furious demands for justice in the case. Neither Clinton nor Bush lifted a finger to help, but a number of congressmen did.
Today, the simple request for an honorable discharge just might get some traction, and if it does, then we just might be able to start building more safeguards for the next generation of fighting men and women, and for a sovereign republic.
